Pondok Pesantren As’ad Olak Kemang Kota Jambi is a traditional Islamic boarding school in the City of Jambi, Indonesia. Founded in 1924, the pesantren is one of the oldest in the region and has an extensive archive of Islamic manuscripts and books. It is also considered to be an important center of Islamic learning in the area.
The founding of the Pondok Pesantren As’ad Olak Kemang Kota Jambi is largely credited to Sayyid As'ad Alfazari Atanda, also known as Kyai As’ad Olak. He was born in Jambi in 1886, and had previously studied under scholars in surrounding areas such as Padang and Bukittinggi. After diligently studying Islamic sciences, he finally returned to Jambi to teach several of his own disciples.
The pesantren was initially founded at a small site, however over time it grew in size as more students joined the Islamic studies program. As the pesantren grew in reputation, they eventually acquired a larger plot of land, allowing for more classrooms, teachers and students. It was during this time that Sayyid As'ad Alfazari Atanda also wrote several works on Islamic jurisprudence which are still widely circulated and referenced today.
The Pondok Pesantren As’ad Olak Kemang Kota Jambi is known for its commitment to Islamic education and the preservation of Islamic heritage. They have a library filled with numerous Islamic texts, manuscripts and reference materials. The Library also holds several rare books that were donated to the pesantren over the years.
In 2004, the pesantren underwent a huge renovation that expanded its classes and improved its facilities. Additional classrooms, a cafeteria, a mosque, and an auditorium were added which allowed the students to better engage in their Islamic education.
Today, the Pondok Pesantren As’ad Olak Kemang Kota Jambi continues to provide quality Islamic education and preserve the Islamic heritage of Jambi. It still holds regular classes, workshops, and talks to help its students gain valuable knowledge and education in the Islamic sciences. The pesantren serves as an important center of Islamic learning, thought and practice in Jambi and is well respected by the locals.
